The Heart is a Lonely Hunter

The Heart is a Lonely Hunter

This is a wonderful adaptation of a book by Carson McCullers.  The central story revolves about an adolescent gift named Mick and the people in her life.  There are several ancillary stories, the most interesting being that of Mr. Singer, a deaf-mute jeweler portrayed by Alan Arkin.  1969 was another year of incredibly strong performances by leading actors nominated for the Academy Award - Mr. Arkin in this film, Alan Bates in The Fixer, Peter O'Toole in The Lion in Winter, Ron Moody in Oliver! (which won the Oscar for Best Film), and Cliff Robertson, who received the Oscar for Best Actor, in Charly.
