Mike Nichols is one of my favorite directors.  He was presented with the Academy Award for Best Director for this film.

Even though The Graduate is set in the 1960's, the message has not changed.  Benjamin's ambivalence about the future and his part in it is something that many graduating seniors experience regardless of the date of graduation.

The only time that I saw this film in a cinema was an interesting experience.  The father of one of my friends had been a career serviceman and she still had access to services on the nearby Army base.  The Graduate was showing at Fort Holabird and we saw the film in the company of about a hundred servicemen.
